Hannah Rollings

Original Acrylic, Ink, Oil, Oil Stick + Flashe on Linen Canvas

A celebration of colour, character and the slower rhythm of island life, Life Beneath the Palms is an original contemporary palm tree landscape painting by Hannah Rollings, painted en plein air along the south coast of Barbados.

Working from beneath the shade of the palms, Rollings captures the welcome relief from the Caribbean heat and dazzling light. Her loose, energetic approach reflects the atmosphere of the island, while the colourful homes scattered through the landscape become almost characters themselves - each with their own identity, warmth and individuality. Layers of paint and expressive marks create a sense of movement without losing the simplicity of the scene.

Part of Hannah Rollings’ Barbados series, Life Beneath the Palms was exhibited at Babington House, Soho House, Somerset during the collection launch and artist talk.
