Hannah Rollings

Original Oil + Oil Stick on Linen Canvas

Capturing the changing light of the River Thames, The River Carries the Light is an original contemporary landscape painting by Hannah Rollings, created en plein air at water level while looking towards Richmond Bridge and the historic architecture lining the river.

Painted as part of the Sky Landscape Artist of the Year programme, the work continues Rollings’ exploration of impressionistic mark-making. The river takes on a luminous quality as changing sky and water create a playful exchange of light and movement. Loose boats become subtle points of stillness, inviting the viewer to follow the river into its ever-evolving wildness.

Exhibited at Babington House, Soho House, Somerset as part of Hannah Rollings’ launch evening and artist talk.
